Found Poem No. 22: Books

Books and words are one of my refuges from the real world so I was thrilled to find this poem on one of the pages of the book I just finished, The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin. It has nothing to do with books, but her characters were strangers to me as I began the book. By the last page, I knew them so well I hated to say goodbye. You never know, when you walk into a book store or library, what you’ll learn, what world you’ll enter or if you might be forever changed by what you discover.

Here’s my poem.

A delicious strangeness
you could walk into.
Near the window
piled books, all these
things to create happiness,
to see more clearly,
be sustained.
